Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much Omega-3 EPA and DHA do I need to consume?

Your ideal Omega-3 dose depends on factors like your current Omega-3 blood levels and diet.

For reference, taking 1500mg of combined EPA+DHA in TG form can increase Omega-3 index in your blood from 4% to 8% in about 13 weeks (source).

We suggest measuring your Omega-3 levels with the Omega-3 Index home blood test (buy here) and adjusting your intake accordingly, whether through food, supplements, or both.

Aim for an Omega-3 Index of 8-12%, which is linked to a 30% lower risk of cardiovascular disease death (source), a 34% lower risk of overall death(source), reduced inflammation(source), and a lower risk of age-related conditions (source).

We advise retesting after 3-4 months to track your progress. Always consult your healthcare provider before altering your diet significantly.

2. Why Omega-3 in Triglyceride (TG) form?

Triglyceride (TG) form of Omega-3 has better bioavailability than the common Omega-3 ethyl esters (EE) (source). This means your body can absorb more EPA and DHA from TG fish oil than from EE fish oil (source).  For example, to double your Omega-3 levels from 4% to 8%, you'd need 53% more Omega-3 if it's in EE form compared to TG (source).

TG fish oil is processed 10 to 50 times more efficiently by the body than EE fish oil. EE's unnatural chemical makeup requires different pancreatic lipase enzymes for breakdown, needing a high-fat meal for proper digestion. (source)

Additionally, TG fish oil stays fresh longer than EE fish oil, which oxidizes more quickly, leading to rancidity. (source).

Note: Highly concentrated fish oils like Fjord Labs Omega-3 TG may also be referred to as rTG (re esterified triglycerides).

3. What's IFOS and where can I find the results of the analysis of my product's manufacturing batch?

International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) is the only third-party testing and certification program exclusively for fish oil supplements. This voluntary program tests the purity, potency, and quality of fish oils.
